Rahul Gandhi asks Why PM Modi mum on Chinese shield for Masood Azhar; BJP blames Jawaharlal NehruNEW DELHI: The Congress has criticised China for siding with Pakistan and blocking JeM chief Masood Azhar from being declared as an international terrorist. It has also lashed out at “the weakkneed Modi government’s jhoola-diplomacy” for this fiasco. Party chief Rahul Gandhi chided Modi for not criticising the Chinese leadership for its decision.

“Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India. NoMo’s China Diplomacy:

1. Swing with Xi in Gujarat

2. Hug Xi in Delhi

3. Bow to Xi in China”, Gandhi tweeted on Thursday.

Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at Gandhi saying “India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr Gandhi’s great grandfather, played a role in China becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council.” Quoting from a book written by senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, a former UN official, Prasad said Nehru had declined the US offer to India for a permanent seat in the Security Council around 1953 and suggested that it be given to China.

“Why is Rahul Gandhi in a celebratory mood when the country is pained by China’s attitude? He must be headlining in Pakistan,” Prasad said.

Prasad said India has tried to mend fences with China, an apparent reference to PM Modi’s outreach to the country, but it will remain steadfast in its fight against terrorism.

Terming the development as one “arisen out of failure of a “weak-kneed Modi government, bending backwards before China over the past five years”, AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: “Will PM Modi answer as to why he became maun Modi as India’s interests were repeatedly compromised?” He then pointed out many incidents such as: “China built a full-fledged military complex in Dokalam only 10 metres from Indian Army posts. China intruded into the Siliguri Corridor through South Dokalam. China built CPEC through PoK /Balochistan.”
